An infant’s
attention span is of merely 2 to 3 seconds. Our attention span is directly
proportional to our age and this helps us a lot in learning new things daily.
On the other
hand when we deal with a child in the learning stage, we often struggle with
grabbing a child’s attention and directing it towards his/her studies. There
are many institutes and centers open across our country and the world which
help parents get guided for the above discussed problem, but there is no better
guide to any problem like a book.
There are
various books to help child development. Developing reading habit is one of the
best training anyone could give their child. Another
simple method on how to cope up with the gaps is through self-learning which
can also be experienced through audio-books.
While many parents fight to get their child hold a book , here are some easy ways to help engage the child's mind while reading.
- Ring a bell, shake a shaker, play quiet music etc while reading. This makes the children more attentive and alert
- Use a count up or countdown method to open the desired page of the book
- Try role playing the character in the book wherever possible as this will build up an interest in the child and he will listen and perform accordingly.
- Keep asking him/her to repeat what you just said to notice that his thoughts are not wandering off.
- Try using unique exercise books to help everyday learning as the same old ways often lead to boring the child’s interest.
