Tips on how to improve your child's reading habits

An infant’s attention span is of merely 2 to 3 seconds. Our attention span is directly proportional to our age and this helps us a lot in learning new things daily.

On the other hand when we deal with a child in the learning stage, we often struggle with grabbing a child’s attention and directing it towards his/her studies. There are many institutes and centers open across our country and the world which help parents get guided for the above discussed problem, but there is no better guide to any problem like a book.

There are various books to help child development. Developing reading habit is one of the best training anyone could give their child. Another simple method on how to cope up with the gaps is through self-learning which can also be experienced through audio-books.

While many parents fight to get their child hold a book , here are some easy ways to help engage the child's mind while reading.

  •    Ring a bell, shake a shaker, play quiet music etc while reading. This makes the children more attentive and alert
  •   Use a count up or countdown method to open the desired page of the book
  •   Try role playing the character in the book wherever possible as this will build up an interest in the child and he will listen and perform accordingly.
  •  Keep asking him/her to repeat what you just said to notice that his thoughts are not wandering off.
  •  Try using unique exercise books to help everyday learning as the same old ways often lead to boring the child’s interest.
Sapna Book House is a book store with variety of books for kids to choose from. Be it mythology, sci-friction or even curriculum based books. Sapna Book House has over 13+ stores located in Bangalore. Visit your nearest outlet with your child  and buy books of their choice. You will slowly see a change in their reading pattern.

Health and Healing- Practice the real Yoga

The eastern and the western world both have caught on to the world of yoga. Yoga had its origins in the east and was introduced to the west by the yogic gurus. Yoga is much more than a mere form of physical exercise. It is meditative, spiritual and is known to contribute to a person's overall health and healing. The ultimate motive of yoga is liberation, however it has taken various forms and various schools of yoga have emerged in the last century. So what is the real yoga?
BKS Iyengar, the father of Yoga once said that people must have strength in their muscles and concentration power in their nerves and the best way to train these two is to practice the yogic asanas.

Healing power of yoga
We constantly look out for pills and medicines to get rid of sickness and pain. Yoga is that cure which can be performed without any surgical procedures. Doctors say that the mind and body requires personal hygiene. Yoga when practiced regularly is bound to improve your fitness levels and keep you mentally active. Yoga researchers who have conducted experiments say that it is a long term intervention and the changes that you get to see mentally and physically are a gradual process. Yoga requires a bit of change in lifestyle if one has to see cosmetic as well as psychological changes.

Healthy life
Yoga is not only about exercising; it's about creating a healthy lifestyle for an individual. A combination of breathing, meditation and asanas helps relieve stress and sharpens the focus. It de-clutters your mind and helps to attain mental peace.

A 'real' yoga practitioner creates awareness of body and mind. The powerful ability of yoga should not only make you look better, it must make you feel better too. Celebrating January 12th with birthdays of two gurus’s who believed and practiced yoga. Yoga has a lot of hidden qualities that helps enhance the living of a human being. Both Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Swami Vivekananda spread the art of meditation and many countries today follow their ideologies .
